Charities

We boast a number of charities amongst our clients and have been actively involved not only in the formation of some but also in their re-structuring as well as giving advice on legal matters arising out of their administration.

Q1

Who can apply to register as a charity?

A1

Any organisation (including a company) which has an exclusively charitable purpose as recognised under English law can register with the Charity Commission.

Q2

Why should an organisation register?

A2

The law requires that organisations which have a charitable purpose and meet certain criteria, must register.

Q3

How is a Charity registered?

A3

An application is made in writing to the Charity Commission. We will advise you on appropriate wording for charitable objects and trustee powers.

Q4

How much does it cost to register a charity?

A4

In straightforward cases, our firm's charges would normally be in the region of £350 excluding VAT. In more complicated cases, our firm's charges would be based on the cost of time spent. The Charity Commission do not charge a fee for making an application for registration.
